British Council Ukraine - IATEFL Ukraine Teacher Professional Development

This year IATEFL Ukraine summer school offers a 30-hour professional development course to challenge and inspire teachers of all levels of education. The school is supported by the British Council Ukraine and is a logical continuation of Teacher Activity Groups and English for Universities projects.

Summer school strands

Teacher Activity Groups

This strand focuses on training primary and secondary school teachers who are eager to become leaders and facilitators of Teacher Activity Groups (TAGs) in order to share and learn about different teaching ideas and techniques on a variety of topics based on their needs and interests, and then make action plans to try out ideas from the TAGs in their lessons. These TAGs complement and extend teacher training workshops that the teachers have received and provide opportunities for teachers to collaborate and support each other on an ongoing basis. Participants will learn how to develop teacher-led professional communities in their regions.

Facilitating University Teacher Excellence: Fundamentals in English for Specific Purposes (ESP)

The strand introduces the first part of the British Council CiVELT course for university ESP teachers and those, who are interested in and highly motivated to practise ESP. The strand covers the key principles of ESP approach and explores the place of ESP in the broader family of ELT branches, learners’ needs and motivation, ESP materials and authentic task design, ESP lesson planning and classroom techniques.
